Frequently Asked Questions

What video is uploaded to the cloud?

Nauto’s intelligent dashcam system detects and uploads collision and high-risk events. These events include distracted driving, collision, hard acceleration, braking, and cornering. Upon automatic upload, this footage is accessible to you via the Nauto Driver app. Additionally, a Bluetooth-connected Mark Button, included with installation, puts you in control. In case of an unsafe event, you can press the button to capture and upload interior and exterior video footage. Once initiated, before-and-after footage will upload to the cloud and then be available within your Nauto driver app.

What is the Nauto Driver app?

Available in the App Store and Google Play Store, the Nauto Driver app connects drivers to the dashcam installed in their vehicle. Through a wireless LTE connection, collisions and high-risk events detected by the dashcam will upload to the Nauto Driver app as well as videos initiated by you with the Mark Button. The Nauto Driver app also provides you with a risk assessment score, or VERA Score, to help you understand your driving behavior.

How does the dashcam work?

Nauto’s dual-facing intelligent camera dashcam system offers 288-degree coverage of loop recording 720p video. The dashcam’s infrared technology captures high quality video footage in any lighting condition- whether during the day or at night.

The Nauto intelligent dashcam automatically detects and uploads video footage of collisions and high-risk events to the cloud through a wireless LTE connection. These event videos, as well as event footage that you initiate with the Mark Button, are accessible through the the Nauto Driver app.

What is the Mark Button?

Nauto’s Bluetooth-connected Mark Button comes with each Nauto dashcam and is designed to put you in control of your rides. If you sense an unusual or unsafe driving event, you can press the button to record and automatically upload interior and exterior footage. To protect passenger’s privacy, this interior footage will be blurred.

In the event of an emergency, please call 911. The Mark Button is only a tool designed to record events for future review.

How do real-time alerts work?

By detecting high-risk driving behavior in real-time, Nauto’s intelligent dashcam will send in-vehicle audio alerts when the device detects that you have been distracted for more than 2 seconds to help you stay focused on the road and help ensure your safety.

In the event of 2-3 second distractions, you’ll hear a short tone (ding, ding). For distractions that last 3-4 seconds, you’ll hear a second set of tones and hear “distracted” to remind you to return your focus to the road (ding, ding, ding, "distracted"). If you’re severely distracted, you’ll hear an even longer, third set of tones (ding, ding, ding, ding, ding).

What requirements are needed for installation?

The Nauto dashcam is connected to your vehicle through its OBD-II port. Because of this, you may not have another device plugged into your vehicle’s OBD-II port to qualify for the offer. Click here to learn more about our OBD-II requirement.

What is an OBDII port?

Onboard diagnostics (OBD) is an automotive term referring to a vehicle's self-diagnostic and reporting capability. OBD systems give the vehicle owner or repair technician access to the status of the various vehicle subsystems.

Your car's OBD-II port should be located in one of the three areas. The most common location is just left of the steering wheel and underneath your dashboard. For some vehicles, the OBD-II port may be located behind a latch or contain a protective cover. All OBD-II ports must be within 2 feet of the steering wheel.

How do I pair my Nauto dashcam with my phone?

Before installation of the Nauto intelligent dashcam, download the Nauto Driver app via the App Store or Google Play Store. Once downloaded, you will be asked to log in using your Uber account, and the device will automatically pair with your account. The Nauto intelligent dashcam is connected to the cloud via wireless LTE, so you never need to worry about pairing your dashcam to your phone during trips.

Who has access to my video?

Nauto and its service providers will have access to all video footage uploaded to the cloud.

As part of this exclusive offer to select Uber driver-partners, Uber will automatically receive video data if there is a detected crash while you are using the Uber app. In addition, Uber will have access to video of potential safety incidents during the time you are using the Uber app.

Can I get audio recording?

Your subscription currently does not include audio recording.

What if I have technical issues with my Nauto dashcam?

Does Uber have access to my data?

As part of our exclusive offer to select Uber driver-partners, Uber will have access to sensor data collected when you are online with Uber, and will not receive data for the time you are not online with Uber.

Uber will automatically receive video data if there is a detected crash while you are using the Uber app. In addition, Uber will have access to video of potential safety incidents during the time you are using the Uber app.

Can I share video with Uber?

While Uber is not able to receive video footage directly from driver-partners, in the event of an incident that you would like to report to Uber, contact Uber Support and inform them that you have a Nauto dashcam installed, as well as when the incident occurred. At that point, Uber can request the footage from Nauto.

Do riders have access to video?

Riders will not have access to video footage.

Do riders know that they will be recorded?

Window decals and headrest cards—complimentary with dashcam installation—will notify riders that they are being recorded. The Nauto dashcam is also designed to blur riders’ faces to help protect their privacy.
