Nauto’s high-end connected dashcam captures video inside and outside your vehicle, encouraging riders to treat you and your car with respect, and help increase transparency around incidents.

With the Nauto Driver app, you can access your driving safety scores to get useful insights about your driving and access dashcam footage straight from your phone.

Your privacy matters

Nauto's service is designed to help protect your privacy. All footage recorded on the dashcam is automatically deleted on a regular basis, and the dashcam uploads video when you request video or a driving event is detected.

Nauto’s integration with Uber is specifically designed for you to easily request that Uber support agents review the video footage, and Uber is not authorized to access any footage unless it is for the purpose of responding to a request for review initiated by you, or for investigating any potential serious safety incidents.

Uber Program

What is the program with Uber?

A select group of dedicated driver-partners on the Uber platform are invited to be among the first to try the Nauto dashcam with Uber.

Selected driver-partners are invited to get one year of Nauto’s connected dashcam system for just 12 monthly payments of $5, or an upfront payment of $50. If drivers choose the monthly installment payment option, $5 will be charged to their credit card each month for that month’s service.

The dashcam is available to driver-partners for as long as they continue to participate in the program, but must be returned to Nauto if driver-partners are removed from the Uber platform or choose to no longer drive with Uber (a total of 90 days of inactivity). Uber may send driver-partners a reminder at 60 days of inactivity.  

At the end of the 12-month program, Nauto may require driver-partners to return the dashcam. If drivers leave the program early, future installment payments will not be charged. Program fees that have already been paid are not refundable.

Why are drivers being offered a Nauto dashcam?

Your safety is important to Uber - whether you’re in the back seat or behind the wheel. Uber is always exploring innovative technologies that can help give you peace of mind when you drive, and is partnering with Nauto to help promote safe rides for both riders and drivers.

How much does it cost to participate?

Drivers may use the Nauto dashcam for one year by making 12 monthly payments of $5 per month or paying $50 upfront. If drivers choose the monthly installment payment option, $5 will be charged to their credit card each month for that month’s service. 

If drivers leave the program early, future installment payments will not be charged.  Program fees that have already been paid are not refundable.

I heard about a dashcam offer, but did not get a notification. Can I participate?

If you did not receive an email or notification in your Carbon Inbox about the program, you are not eligible to participate at this time.

Can I cancel if I don’t like the dashcam?

Yes. if you would like to leave the program, please contact Nauto Support at support@nauto.com.

If you leave the program early, future installment payments will not be charged. Program fees that have already been paid are not refundable.

How is my privacy protected?

Nauto's service is designed to help protect your privacy. All footage recorded on the dashcam is automatically deleted on a regular basis, and the dashcam uploads video for you only in these instances:

  • A crash is detected by the camera. Video will automatically upload to the Nauto cloud for you to use in insurance claims.
  • You request an upload from your dashcam, including when you request video review from Uber support. If you request video through the Nauto Driver app, 3 minutes of video is uploaded to the Nauto cloud and can be seen in your Nauto Driver app.
  • Uber needs to investigate a potential serious safety incident from an Uber trip (for example, physical altercation or sexual misconduct). Uber is not authorized to access any footage unless you request for review, or for investigating a potential serious safety incident.
How is my riders’ privacy protected?

In speaking to riders about dashcam use, Uber advises that while most riders do not have issues with a dashcam, they are concerned about their image or private conversations being shared publicly. That’s why Nauto uses facial blurring technology for passenger faces and does not include audio for video in the Nauto Driver App.

You will be able to access video from your Uber trips; however, you will not be able to download this video. Instead, you can easily request video review from Uber support. In the event of an incident, simply tap Trip Issues and Adjustments in the Help section of your Uber Driver app, and request dashcam video review when you select “I was in an accident” or “My rider made me feel unsafe.” When Uber reviews footage, passenger faces are not blurred and audio is included, if available.

Can I buy my own Nauto dashcam outside of the program?

No, the Nauto dashcam is not currently being offered to the general public.

What is the Nauto dashcam?

The Nauto dashcam is a connected dashcam system designed to help promote safe rides for both riders and drivers, increase transparency around crashes or in-vehicle incidents, and send you alerts about your driving.

Nauto’s connected high-end dashcam captures video inside and outside your vehicle, to help provide an accurate record of events if you need it. It is designed to automatically detect crashes, and makes this video easily available to you in the Nauto Driver app.

If you want to view video, you can choose to upload footage directly in the app. Video is available from up to 30 hours of driving history.

If you’d like to report a safety incident from an Uber trip, you can easily allow Uber Support to review video from that trip. Uber is not authorized to access any footage unless you request for review, or for investigating a potential serious safety incident during an Uber trip.

How does the technology work?

The Nauto connected dashcam’s innovative technology offers the following features:

  1. Video recording inside & in front of your vehicle
  2. Automatic detection and video upload of crashes to the Nauto Driver app
  3. View video straight from the Nauto Driver app
  4. Easily allow Uber to view footage in the case of a safety incident
  5. Distracted driving and tailgating alerts 

For riders’ privacy, Nauto uses facial blurring technology when you view videos in the Nauto Driver app.

The Nauto dashcam's technology also alerts you when it detects certain types of safety risks, such as distracted driving and tailgating, and sends you in-vehicle audio alerts.

How do I access my video?

With the Nauto Driver app, you have easy access to request dashcam video straight from your phone. Simply follow these steps:

  • Open your Nauto Driver app and navigate to the Events section
  • Select “Group by trip” and tap on the driving trip you’d like to request from
  • Tap “Request video” 
  • Select the time period you’d like to request video for

The Nauto dashcam stores up to 30 hours of driving history and automatically deletes old footage.

In the event of a crash or a safety incident inside your vehicle during an Uber trip, you can easily request that Uber review video of the incident. Simply navigate to Trip Issues and Adjustments under the Help section of your Uber Driver app, and select “I was in an accident” or “My rider made me feel unsafe.” After you provide a description of the incident, you will be given the option to request video review. Uber is not authorized to access any footage unless it is for the purpose of responding to a request initiated by you, or for investigating any potential serious safety incident (for example, a physical altercation, sexual misconduct, or serious vehicle crash). 

How do the alerts work?

The Nauto connected dashcam’s technology is designed to send you alerts about your driving.

To help you stay focused on the road ahead, Nauto will alert you when it detects that you may be distracted.

  • For short distractions, you’ll hear a level 1 alert
  • For medium distractions, you’ll hear the next level 2 alert
  • If you remain distracted, you’ll hear a final level 3 alert

To help prevent crashes due to tailgating, Nauto will alert you when it detects that you may be an unsafe distance away from the car ahead of you. You will hear an alert depending on the detected severity: mild, medium, or severe.

Does the dashcam record audio?

Audio recording on the dashcam depends on your installation location.

In Tennessee and Texas

If your Nauto dashcam was installed in Tennessee or Texas, it will be configured to record audio. However, when you review video in the Nauto Driver app, it will not include audio. If you request that Uber review your dashcam footage from a certain trip, the video that Uber receives from Nauto will include audio. This allows Uber to better understand what happened. 

Other Locations

Your Nauto dashcam will not record audio unless it was installed in Tennessee or Texas.

What is the Nauto Driver app?

Available on iOS and Android, the Nauto Driver app can provide information about your driving patterns, including a personalized driving score and videos of your driving.

Using the Nauto Driver app, you can access your driving safety scores, review your Nauto driving history to get useful insights about your driving, and request to view dashcam footage straight from your phone.

Will the dashcam affect my vehicle’s function?

The Nauto dashcam receives power from your vehicle via the OBD port, but does not otherwise interact with your vehicle’s internal systems.

Does the dashcam record while I’m parked?

No. The dashcam is designed to record only when you are driving, and for 5 minutes after you’ve parked.

How long will my video take to upload?

When you request to view footage, you are initiating an upload from the Nauto dashcam to view in the Nauto Driver app.

The speed of these video uploads depends on a few variables:

  1. How much other video is in the upload queue (for example, a detected crash or other upload request).
  2. Length of video: The longer the video, the longer it will take to upload.
  3. Dashcam status: When your vehicle is off, the dashcam periodically activates to fulfill video uploads for a set period of time. When your vehicle is on and moving, the dashcam will upload any video in the queue throughout your trip.
  4. LTE connection: The Nauto dashcam must have a clear data connection.
What do the lights on the dashcam mean?

The two lights on the inward-facing camera of Nauto dashcam change color to show different statuses:

  • Green: The dashcam is active in normal daytime conditions
  • Dim Red: The dashcam is recording in infrared to maintain high-quality image during low-light conditions
  • Blue: The dashcam is updating its software
  • Bright Red: Your dashcam is experiencing technical difficulties. Please contact support@nauto.com to help troubleshoot.

Just above the outward facing camera and beneath the Nauto logo, there is a small green LED to indicate that the dashcam is on.

How do updates on the dashcam work?

The Nauto Dashcam receives periodic updates that are delivered over-the-air, so you can receive the latest features without having to do anything with the dashcam.

When the dashcam is updating, it will not be recording. Because of this, the updates are configured to begin when your vehicle is stopped and parked to help ensure all driving time is captured.

What are my installation options?

The Nauto dashcam must be professionally installed by a Nauto-authorized technician, and dashcams are provided at the time of installation. See complete installation details here.

For this exclusive offer to eligible driver-partners, Nauto is partnering with Best Buy to offer complimentary Nauto dashcam installations. For this option, you can visit a participating Best Buy location for a walk-in installation, or schedule an installation appointment online.

If you are still unable to find a participating Best buy in your city, you can contact a professional installation partner directly to schedule your complimentary installation.

How is the Nauto dashcam connected to my vehicle?

The Nauto dashcam is connected through your vehicle's OBD port to receive power only. No vehicle data is collected through the Nauto OBD port plug.

What if I have another device connected to my OBD port?

If you have another device connected to your OBD port, you will need to supply an OBDII Y-cable to support both devices in your vehicle.

Can I move the dashcam to a new or different car? Is there a cost?

This exclusive offer with free professional installation is limited to one installation per eligible driver-partner to help promote safe rides in the car you use with Uber. If you are changing the vehicle you are driving on Uber with, you may contact Nauto Support to move the device to another vehicle. Nauto may charge an additional cost for this service.

Will the Nauto Dashcam be shipped to me?

No, the Nauto dashcam will not be shipped to you. Nauto offers complimentary dashcam installation with professional Nauto-authorized technicians, and you will receive your Nauto dashcam at the time of installation.

I missed my appointment. What should I do?

If you missed your appointment, you can contact our professional installation partners directly to schedule an appointment for your complimentary installation. Simply navigate to the "Installation Partners" partners to see a list of partners and contact information by city.
